Jacob Vanneste is a Brussels-based musician, born in 1990. In 2013, he finished his Masters degree in Music in Percussion Performance, Cum Laude, at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Bart Quartier, Gert François, Bart Bouckaert and Benjamin Van Esser. He also studied audiovisual composition in Granada, Spain under Pedro Guajardo.
The greater part of his artistic work is comprised of interpretation of contemporary solo percussion repertoire, focusing particularly on electronic and performance music. Jacob always tries to search for pieces that reflect parts of society, history, politics or philosophy.
Furthermore, he has side projects with a duo Two Envelopes (percussion and harpsichord) and is very interested in early music. For the latter, he has followed many classes with Pedro Estevan (Jordi Savall).
Other important masterclasses he has participated in have been with Nancy Zeltsman (marimba), Ruben Dantas (cajón), Shabani Jabili (East-African percussion), Martin Gort (latin percussion), and Paul Dombrecht (early music).
His repertoire is composed of pieces composed by I. Xenakis, R. Cendo, P. Billone, P. Jodlowski, U. Chin, T. De Mey, V. Globokar, R. Ford, among others. Additionally, Jacob also writes his own electronic and performance works using Max/msp and Ableton live.
With his degree in pedagogy, he teaches about electronic music, experimental music, percussion and media in several Belgian music academies and gives workshops about soundscaping and percussion.
Jacob also gave a masterclass about electronic and audiovisual music in the Conservatory of Granada.
